Oh, How He Loves Me!

Psalm 19:4–6 "In [the heavens] He has placed a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber. It rejoices as a strong man to run his course. It's rising is from one end of the heavens, and its circuit to the other end of them. nd there is nothing hidden from its heat."

Observation: David says that the heavens are a covering for the sun like a tent covers the bridegroom. And when the sun comes out it's like a strong man running his course.

Application: See how this points to Christ who as my Bridegroom ran His course and in the end, was able to say, "It is finished"? Traditional Jewish weddings take place under a tent, which causes this passage to point even more clearly to the finished work of Christ Who makes it possible for me to be seated at the wedding banquet, the marriage supper of the Lamb. The work of the Bridegroom is finished, and his course has been run. Just as nothing is hidden from the heat of the sun, so is nothing hidden from my magnificent Bridegroom. His light shines into the darkest places of my heart, and He speaks intimately to me of His faithfulness and His great love.

I think of people like Abraham and Moses and Ezekiel who were so completely undone by seeing the Lord that they fell prostrate before Him. Yet this same Man loves me so passionately, He so desires intimacy with me, that He spent all He had making it possible for me to become a voluntary lover of Him. I am not under any compulsion to love, but His love is so absolutely overwhelming that I have no choice but to yield all I am to become all He is. When I meditate on Him I, too, am undone.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your love for me is so deep, so full, so complete, that my heart cries out to be in union with You. As I gaze on Your beauty, all the "things" of this world fade into insignificance. I love You, Lord. Help me to keep my relationship with You the most important thing in my life. Cause me to worship and to value nothing but You and Your great sacrifice.
